Type 1 Recording Policies

Recording Sessions

By booking a session, you agree to the below terms

  • Sessions must be booked in advance and it can be chosen whether to do a session for a set amount of hours or choosing a day and working until completion.

  • Clients are welcome to use equipment from the studio or bring their own equipment.

    • Guitars in the studio are not for client use unless given prior permission

  • Sessions can be paid for upfront or once an invoice has been received.

  • Sessions cost $35 an hour and include: setup/teardown for larger sessions, recording, and editing.

  • The hourly rate begins when setup begins for larger sessions (ex: drum set recording) or when work begins in the studio if minimal setup is required. For larger sessions, most setup will occur before the client arrives unless specified otherwise.

  • Sessions are charged by the designated start time for the booking. Clients are expected to show up at the designated start time of the session. The session time will not be pushed back for late arrivals.

  • An invoice detailing the services provided in a session will be sent shortly after the session is completed. Payment is expected in a prompt and timely manner.

  • If you are a group, it is preferred if payment comes from one individual.

  • No audio files will be sent out until full payment has been received for all work up to that point.

  • Payment methods accepted: cash, Venmo (@joejulianomusic), Zelle (973-396-6516)

  • Once full payment has been received, you will get an audio file of the completed work from the session. Additional audio files and formats can also be requested.

  • If I am mixing the song, I will keep the recorded audio files in my session for the project.

  • If I am not mixing the song, I will send you the finished and edited .wav files of all individual parts at the sample rate and bit depth of your project.

Mixing/Mastering Sessions

By booking a session, you agree to the below terms

  • Mixing sessions are not typically attended by clients but you can request to do so. If you’d like to be present for a mixing session, the booking procedure is the same as listed above for recording sessions.

  • Mixing/mastering is $35 an hour. Audio editing is also included in the hourly rate.

  • If you are sending audio files to be mixed, the files must all be .wav (or similar uncompressed) files.

    • Make sure all audio files start at the same time so everything will line up correctly

    • Make sure the sample rate and bit depth of the files are consistent. Common sample rates are 44.1kHz and 48kHz and common bit depths are 16 bit and 24 bit. Ideally all the files should match (ex: all files are 48kHz, 24 bit). Higher sample rates are fine but nothing below 44.1kHz, 16 bit will be accepted.

      • This information is typically found in the file info. On Mac, select the file and go to File-Get Info-More Info

    • DO NOT send audio files that have been normalized

  • Before I start the mix, we will have a discussion about how you’d like it to sound.

    • This includes sending several reference songs that you feel are similar to your song and you’d like your song to sound like.

    • Give me the clearest picture possible of the sound through references of songs and artists.

  • Once the discussion about the mix is completed, I will begin mixing the song on my own time unless the client wishes to be present.

  • If revisions are needed, give me as detailed feedback as you can for each revision.

  • An invoice will be sent out at the completion of each mixing session and an audio file of the mix will be made available once full payment has been completed.

  • No audio files will be sent out until full payment has been received for work up to that point in time.

  • Payment methods accepted: cash, Venmo (@joejulianomusic), Zelle (973-396-6516)

  • Once a final mix is agreed upon, you will receive a .wav file of the final mix at the sample rate and bit depth of the project. Additional audio files and stems can be requested at this point.
